Losing preferred layout in IE6

Using IE6.0.2800.1106xpsp2 on a Windows XP PC and lately whenever I restart
my PC it does not retain my preferred browser layout (for toolbar postions,
size of buttons etc) but resets to default. I thought closing the browser
using shift+X (or shift+close) usually worked but that just seems to be
working for current session. When I restart the PC its back to the defaults.

Can anyone tell me how I can make it retain my preferred browser settings?
