losing connection to shared drive

I'm losing connection to a shared drive. In windows explorer, the drives
have an X over. When I click on it, I get the following error message:

"An error occurred while reconnecting S: to \\ServerName\ShareName " The
local device is already in use. This connection has not been restored."

If I re-click on it it connects. But if I let it sit for awhile, it goes
back to being disconnected, i can tell by the X on it. But it doesn't lose
connection while actively using it, only when it sits awhile unused. I
changed some things with the network card such as the ability of the
computer to turn it off to save power.

Any suggestions?
