loopback address seemingly unbound to file sharing

Hi,

I've got a problem in that my PC (Windows XP, SP2) doesn't let me use
my loopback address (127.0.0.1) in a UNC path to its shares. Of course
the computer name and the IP adapter's address work just fine. Other
computers here allow this.

"net view 127.0.0.1" yields:

System error 53 has occurred.

The network path was not found.

I've "repaired" the connection, but that didn't seem to help.

Anyone got any ideas?

Wendy,

Which "repairs" have you tried? There are 4 which I identify, and none of the 4
are known to be dominantly effective.

This could also be a firewall problem.

Hi Chuck,

The repair option that I used was in control panel/ network
connections/ status/ support/ repair. I didn't expect it to work, but
tried it anyway.

I'm not running a firewall - my Windows XP firewall is disabled.
