Looking for specific PIM

H

HB

I am looking for a way to organise my personal information (bookmarks,
contacts with photos, articles, notes, to-do list, etc.).
Up till now I have made myself a kind of intranet (offline web site)
but that means that all of the information is scattered over various
files and I need to open my HTML editor to alter, add or delete data.
I would like to have everything in one place, if possible in one single
file. I do not need any predetermined fields (e.g. for contacts. I am
willing to add my contacts in rich text). However, it would be nice if
the program could also import HTML files (like Evernote).

What I would basically need is a combination of Evernote, Keynote,
Treepad, ...

Does this exist? Although this is a freeware newsgroup I would also
welcome non-freeware answers.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Ask your question in an appropriate newsgroup! Deliberately inviting
off topic (for acf) anwers qualifies you for the moron of the week
medal. I congratulate you with the nomination for this coveted award.

Offhand, I think the phrasing of your reply qualifies _you_.

I congratulate you with the nomination for this coveted award.

Of all those who have nothing to say, those who shut up are the nicest.

So, please be nice.

I agree with Mark. Why be so harsh? The questioner was indeed asking
about freeware solutions, but simply indicated that, should someone know
of a non-freeware alternative, he'd be interested.

I'm sometimes amazed at the tone of some folks around here.

As for a commercial program I use AskSam since 1985 (?). It's a
non-hierarchical text data base which can integrate any type of info,
with fields = structured and without, and both in the same data base.
You can look up a search term like European and peace in which both
terms are in the same paragraph, the same sentence, left or right 2
words from each other etc.

There is a trial version on www.asksam.com.

I use it together with surfsaver which saves webpages (up to the number
of links you define). SurfSaver saves in asksam format so you can
integrate your memos, ideas, biblio, adresses, web pages, etc. in one file.

But it's not for free.

Frank,

Yes! I too have used AskSam for decades [sic!]. I've always kinda
wondered why it simply hasen't gotten the attention it well deserves
among database systems, PIM's etc. Same with SurfSaver which I too have
been using for a bit.

Funny, the only consistent posts I see [and they're rare at that] re:
AskSam seem to come from German users.

Anyway, as you say, it ain't free so I better get off before that other
feller gets on my case, too.

For the record, a previous version of AskSam was given on the CD of one of
those computer magazines a few years ago. It was released as freeware.
Of course, they hope you update. I never spent much time with it, however.

askSam used to be good in the DOS days, the upgrades were flakey.
I used to be a loyal user, but they lost me
