Looking for SP2 ISO?

Hi,
My laptop (Dell C640) has gone belly up with a "Missing or corrupt
NTFS.SYS". I'm trying to run the Recovery Console thingy to restore the
file, however it is asking for the Service Pack 2 CD. All I have is the
Dell CD which has Win2K and SP2 "slipstreamed" (Is that the right term?)
I've been googling and FTP searching trying to find SP2 in an ISO image
that I can download and use, but to no avail.

Can someone point me in the right direction, or is it possible to make a
CD from the exe file that can be downloaded from Microsoft? Any other
tips in solving my problem is appreciated.
TIA
Steve.

Slipstreamed is indeed the right term. You should be able to point the
installer to that CD (probably the \i386 folder) using a browse button and
it should be OK.

From the downloadable executable, there's some additional work of extracting
the service pack required to get at the files. If you do have the
executable, run it from the command prompt with the -x switch, and it'll let
you extract the files which you can then burn onto a CD.

Hope this helps

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I had assumed it was checking the Label on
the CD which is why I thought I'd need an ISO image to get it to see the
right files. I must admit I didn't notice it give me the option to browse
for the right files.

You're welcome. Windows often asks for the service pack CD when it really
wants the original installation media.

Oli,
I tried what you suggested, but the Win2000 setup screen doesn't have the
option to browse to another folder. I just get a prompt to put the CD
labelled "Service Pack 2 CD" into the drive and press enter. I downloaded
w2ksp2.exe and unpacked it with the -x flag, burnt the files onto CD but
this didn't help either.
If I were to attempt to re-install Win2k into a directory other than the
current WINNT directory will this allow me access to the data I currently
have on the HDD?

Thanks,
SC
