Looking for sound utility

Looking for software that will record a sound source if you can hear
it. Meaning no matter the source (streaming audio, etc), it will
simply record it to an mp3 or wav file. I've noticed lots of
commercialware (simply type 'record what you hear' into google).

Anyone know any freeware solutions?

You might see if silent bob will do what you want.

Well, I did a little 'research'. Audacity will work, but unfortuantly
will not record streaming audio with one exception. I need to run a
cable from my audio out to my audio in then record. Seems you can't
record a digital sound signal.

Anyone feel free to correct me. . . .

This can be done. However, it may be limited to the capabilities of
the driver of your sound card. I have a couple PC's that will
directly record what is coming out of the sound card. It is one of
the options in the standard windows recording IN mixer which is
affected by the driver.

Depends on your soundcard. Even the dirt cheap now SoundBlaster
Live/5.1 have a record "what you here" feature. OF course that will
record other system sounds (emai alerts, etc) and audio drop-outs
when the internet craps out.

I think ASF recorder records streaming audio.

Bye for now.

Clive.
