Are you saying that there is no way that you can plug a phone line from
a wall outlet to your modem, and use the native Windows XP FAX Service?
Or, if you already have a line plugged in for a dialup internet
connection, just don't be online when you use the Windows FAX Service
to send a FAX. To install the native Windows XP FAX Service: Control
Panel/Add or Remove Programs, click the big button on the left to
Add/Remove Windows Components, click to put a checkmark in the box to the
left of FAX Services, click the NEXT button, and follow the rest of the
wizard.
Try getting an RJ jack here:
With a laptop by the pool, or in Starbucks
In a location that only has cheap VOIP (i.e. Vonage) voice
service, which is still hostile to FAX and analog modems.
In an office that has gone all-cordless, or has a digital PBX
system that is hotile to FAX modems.
In a small office where the cost of provisioning a line
for every desk would cost more than a service like Efax.
Efax could cover these issues, but my preference for a FAX interface
that acts like a printer in my ControlPanel/Printers, I find that
being able print fron within the application much easier than a
seperate web FAX interface, requiring a seperate step.
