I am ot sure if this is the correct group to post to.

I have a strange problem with XP Fax Services. I am using a Dell XPS410 with
XP MCE SP2 with all security and Hot Fixes up to date.

I can successfully install Fax Services, configure and use it. I can send
Faxes with no problems. I can send Faxes from MS Word.

However, after re-booting the computer for the first time after the install
certain Processes will hang for several minutes before functioning. Things
like IE 6 and Add/Remove Windows Components will just sit there doing
nothing.

Process Explorer shows no activity except for System Idle Process. When what
ever is hanging is finished you see changes in the Processes in Process
Explorer and everything is then normal. I looked at the Event Viewer logs
and there are several Error and Warning events listed. Following the links
to MS Support doesn't give useful info.

I tried fiddling with the Fax Services configuration but this doesn't make a
difference. I tried disabling Trend Micro I.S. Only doing an uninstall
helps.

Any ideas?

What Event Log ID#'s ? - It's possible that you're dealing with a
"Dependency" service issue. Certain services are dependant on
others to initialize properly. This can happen if someone has set
service start modes so that a normal service startup sequence does
not occur. XP will use a default timer of 30-seconds to wait on a
service to start. Is your computer taking longer than usual to boot
and become usable ?

Basically no XP setup should generate any Errors in the System
event log while booting. The clues are there it's just knowing which
event ID's are being logged.

I suspected that this is what was happening from the error messages. I just
have to figure out what it is causing it.

Thank you

I may have solved the problem by looking at the error messages. The errors
were for a Brother Print Spooler and the Intel Quick Resume in the Services
Start Up. I got rid of the Brother printer a long time ago and thought I had
removed all traces of it but Brother software is difficult to remove
completely. I disabled the Brother thing and the Intel Quick resume and it
works normally now with Windows Fax enabled.

Thanks again for the help

It may have been related to a no longer used Brother Printer Spooler Driver
and the Inter that was in the Windows Services. I d
