Is there a list of popular freeware some where? preferably in a word or
excel format with download links?

Then take a look at the ACF files ;) (roughly 4000 apps that have been
mentioned in ACF). :) Available in three formats:

The .txt file is tab delimited - it can be copied and pasted into a
spreadsheet.

I not sure if that's good or bad. ;)

Those files have the same information that's shown on the ACF program
information pages. IOW - the files are just another way of sharing the
info that's posted in ACF.
