Lockergnome now worthless for freeware...

I used to look forward to Lockergnome's email newsletter "Hot Downloads".
Although not all freeware, each item in the newsletter was clearly marked as to
it's freeware, shareware, or commercial status. Now they have eliminated these
tags and - seemingly - most of the freeware listings (the most recent email had
only two freeware items, a textbox control for developers and a light edition
drawing tutorial.) Methinks that they must be getting some sort of payback for
their listings.

Oh well, time to unsubscribe...

I unsubscribed from lockergnome many years ago once it started going
commercial .. I subscribed to it when it was just a text based
newsletter and it used to focus on the new computer user and freeware
but now its too big and very commercial and expects everyone to know
what they are talking about technically and computer wise of which only
a small minority do ... so the new PC user is now left out in the cold
so to speak .. who wants to know about the life of a gnome anyway ?

Same here. Chris Pirillo was great when he was independant...he got way
too commerical. I was big fan an linked him early on... that all
changed. ACF, NoNags, and Son of Spy are my choices nowadays...

I unsubscribed it me too, for your same reasons.
Commercial is not a good friend of freeware...

I also several months ago; I still check Karen Kenworthy's site...she has
some real sleepers there, but Lockergnome was just filling up by inbox with
pretty much stuff I wouldn't use. Son of Spy is a good place too.

Actually, I'd appreciate some help with this. ;) The "problem" is that we're
now relying on PAD files to incorporate downloads into the site. If you have
PAD file URLs to submit, just pass 'em on to me and I'll make sure they get
into the database ASAP.

Speaking of help. . . ;)

It would be helpful if Lockergnome mentioned the new Pricelessware site
(the old site is no longer being maintained). The new site is here:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org

You might also want to mention the latest Pricelessware CD - details here:

Unfortunately, Susan, it's not on his agenda to help others.

After deserting the group of people who did help him by providing
hints & tips in his early days [when he was married] he subsequently
set about destroying said group and most of his original team to boot.
That left much bitterness in the group and his regrouping gave him a
smallish group of sycophants, clueless for the most part.

In an exchange of emails with him on his being in Microsofts' pockets,
he vehemently denied this - then initiated a meeting, for subscribers,
in part financed by Microsoft itself.

Here is a young man whose ego is second only to his cupidity.

His bloated newsletters are now a thing of the past AFAIC and
while I don't wish him any ill, I find it hard in my conscience to
wish him any well either.

Yup. Chris asks for help but doesn't offer any. . . His lack of
response to my post bears out your opinion.
