Looking for editor with tabs in SINGLE file

Hello all,
I am looking for a text editor app that would allow me to have
multiple tabs in a single file. I have never seen this but think it
would be useful. Basically, it would be a simple text editor, but you
could have mutiple tabs in a single file - similar to how Excel has
multiple tabs in a single file, but instead of a spreadsheet it would
just be a simple text editor. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Thanks
aaron

I don't think that's what the OP is asking for. Each tab in EditPad is a
separate file.

I've never heard of such a thing and I could see problems making it happen
from a programmers POV. There are plain text organizers that allow outline
headings within the same file which kind of achieves the same effect. None
are freeware that I know of.

Treepad is similar in principle. It's one long text file but instead of tabs
at the top, the user is looking at an "outline" view in the left hand panel.
It's freeware. However, each "tab" is self-contained -- you can't see the
entire file at a glance unless you choose to export it.

I look forward to further replies. . .

Thanks, keynote is basically what I was looking for. I was thinking of
a tab paradigm, but a tree should work as well, and be easier to
maintain.

QEdit (anyone remember that) could sort of do it. It could open
multiple "windows" on the same file. (Of course it was a DOS program,
but you could have multiple views of the same file.)

You can use KeyNote with tree, tab, or both at the same time.

I use an older text editor (no longer updated) called Notespad by Skip
Bremer.
It will open multiples of the same file. The last version is available at:

http://www.newbie.com/NotesPad/

It is a small editor. I've used it on Win98 and XP. It does have a
limit on the size of files, but it has some good text sort and html
stripping features.
