Looking for application launcher...

In MS-DOS, I have a program called DESQView (a "shell" for DOS) which
had a menu of programs I could launch, and a 2-letter 'code' for it.

It was like:

4DOS | 4D
4DOS Help | 4H
Microsoft BASIC | QB
MS-DOS Editor | ED
ZSNES (SNES emulator) | ZS

and so on. I could launch programs by typing their 'code' (e.g. if I
wanted Microsoft BASIC I would just type 'QB', for 4DOS I just typed
'4D'...).

Useful as it was easier than selecting the app with arrow keys or mouse.

Q: Is there any application launcher that can be used in this way?

Thanks!

You can do that just using Windows.

For myself, I use Window's built-in functionality along with a Run
dialog program. I happen to use "Born to Run" (which I have on my quick
launch bar), but you can use any of them, including the standard Windows
Run dialog.

The Windows part? Just make a shortcut to your programs, renaming them
to the 'code' you want to use (e.g. "4D" for 4DOS), and delete the "exe"
extension. Then put the shortcut in the Windows folder (easiest to use
the "Send to" dialog).

Then, when you type '4D', for example, in the Run dialog, it'll
automatically call up 4DOS.

I have about 100 shortcuts in my Windows folder that I use that way. It
works with programs, files and folders.

Find the shortcut to the program. right
click-->properties-->shortcut--ctrl+alt+x (where x is the letter you want
to use)

Looks good! I will try this.
