looking for a free program like -my drivers 1.22-

Hi everybody.Im looking for a free program like MyDrivers1.22
that can do as follows

My Drivers enables easy and fast detection, backup and restore of all
hardware device drivers currently on your system. Also, you can even
find the latest drivers for your hardware and install them onto your
computer. With just one or two mouse button clicks, you will have all
your hardware devices extracted and backed-up to any folder you want.
When you reinstall or upgrade your system, you can restore all drivers
by clicking a button. Once after a reboot, all the drivers will be
re-installed and will function well. You may also choose to backup a
particular driver or all the drivers with an EXE automatic installer.
If you have a particular item of hardware that is troublesome, just
remove the driver with this software.
Unfortunately My drivers program is shareware
Does exist any freeware to do these things as mentioned above.
Thanks for your time

(I'm not the original poster.) I've had WinDriversBackup on my system
for some time, but I'm not sure how I'd apply the saved drivers on my
XP system, if the time came. A driver sounds as though it should mean
one file but often means quite a few. For instance, my modem driver
seems to be comprised of about ten different files. I don't know that
"have disk" will suffice without an .inf file.

There has been quite a bit of deception about this program in the
past. At first it appears someone ripped off the program and the web
site and made minor changes to both.

I got one of the earliest versions, which was freeware, and which
worked great on my 98SE machine. I added it to my web site and people
running ME + wrote stating that the program "timed out."

Why would a freeware author add code to make the app time out?

To make a long story shorter, the only things that have held true with
this app are bigtime deception and bait and switch tactics in which
the program is offered under many names. It is billed as freeware and
then you get shareware, or freeware with limiting code.

Your jemar link above now refers to a program called "DriverGuide"
that is shareware :(

" WinDriversBackup has changed to DriverGuide Toolkit. DriverGuide
Toolkit is now published by iCentric Corp. You can find DriverGuide
Toolkit located here: DGT"...

"REDUCED PRICE, LIMITED TIME OFFER!

While the concept is really good and the early version that I tried
worked well I suspect this is all the works of a single individual
having personality conflicts with himself.

Is this the sort of software that you really want executing on your
machine? Do you really trust this author?

Yup - see:

The change to shareware has added to the confusion. Sietse provided a
link to the last freeware version or see:

I wasn't aware of this - don't recall it coming up in the PL2004
discussion period. PL should have a note about that - as a minimum - if
this is well documented behavior.

Yes. I think it was you that emailed me about removing it via the
Huntersoft discovery. The timeout did not work in 98SE, but I got many
emails from people running ME-2000 that it did time out on. I had
started to remove it before, but I it was a nice program that did work
in 98SE. The Huntersoft thing was the last straw.

Yup - it was me that emailed you. :)

Then you mean WinDriver Expert expires, *not* WinDriversBackup by JerMar
[PL2003][PL2004] . . . I should have remembered that from previous
posts you made about the problem . . .

I'm still mixed up I guess <G>. Yes, Expert expired.

I have a suspicion that this is all the same program and person trying
different tactics to sell the program though. Once again, it is billed
as freeware and is really shareware. I might well be wrong... bait and
switch has been a constant though. There were simply too many
simularities in the programs, websites and tactics for me to give it
another shot. I'll apologize in advance should the real author be a
victim who just took it shareware. I don't think this is the case
though.
