Long wait after startup

Hi there,
I experienced this thing after having a clean installation of Windows
XP Pro with SP2, when I restart the computer, it takes a while to load
the stuff in the system try (near the clock). Also, I can't install
updates (windows media player) I can download the updates but when I
want to install they just freeze without any error message, and when I
close them using the task manager they just close without any message.

Hi FHH,

Locate the WindowsUpdate.log file under \Windows or \Winnt. Open it and
scroll to the bottom. Look at the error codes and compare them against this
site:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
