Long time to load the desktop....

My PC takes a while now to fully load Vista. It used to be fairly
quick but now it takes upto 3 minutes to fully load the desktop. I do
not have many startup items and can only think of registry getting too
large over time. Any way to clean / refresh the regtry please?

Hello (e-mail address removed),

Start with disk cleanup from Start, all programs, accessoires, system tools.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

The registry cannot get too large.

Invoke MSCONFIG and turn off the start up items one by one until you find
the culprit.

If you dick with the registry, there is an excellent chance of turning your
computer into a brick. No one here approves of so-called "registry
cleaners." Leave it alone.
