LogonUI seems corrupt: no welcome screen.

Hi!

Recently, my computer hung, and since then I do not receive
the welcome screen on startup. Instead I get the standard
(more secure) login dialogue box. The tick box for Show
Welcome Screen is checked in Control Panel|Users and I have
tried to replace the c:\Windows\System32\Logonui.exe with a
backup from Service Pack 1, but I still do not get the
welcome screen.

Can anyone tell me where the registry settings are for this
setting and which files are involved in displaying the
welcome screen? Any possible solutions would be much
appreciated.

Thanks for your help,
--Andrew

I'm having a similar problem. I tried using Style XP a while back, and it apparently messed a LOT up.

I remember editing a file, and backing it up etc; but each time I tried to replace the new with the back up, Win replaced it and kept the new one

Thus, I now still have the classic, NT, type thing. I checked my registry for what you posted, and its set to true (1). I even went through cp>users and edited it for "welcome screen + fast switching". However, I still have the NT logon.

I can take a ss of that part of the registry if that would help

Ignore what you have already tried:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

In the right pane scroll down to UIHost. Double click
it and type this in under Value Data: logonui.exe
