We have multiple small sites that do not have a DC
locally. When the link is down, our desktop users can no
longer log in using their domain accounts. I've read XP
will log on without waiting for a network connection, but
is their a way to force Win2000 desktops to do the same?

They should work that way by default. Are you set up with policies that
delete cached profiles on logout? What do you see in the event logs?

I am using Group Policy, but nothing that would hinder
cached profiles. I am not seeing anything in the event
logs of the workstations referencing problems.

Hi Jon,

There is no local cache feature in Windows 2000. Windows 2000 always uses
Synchronous at start up/Logon.

Client Application at
startup/log on Application at refresh

Windows 2000 Synchronous Asynchronous

Not so...I have plenty of W2k users who log in with cached credentials -
laptop users, etc etc etc - it's been the default behavior since NT4, at
least.
