Today I tried to open an Access file and it asks me to
logon with a user name and password but I don't recall
ever turning anything to require me to logon. It asks for
it on any Access file I try to open.
I tried other Office programs and they open fine like Word
and Excel files they open just fine. I am using Office XP,
at work I use office 97 and opened some of the same files
just fine. Thanks for your help.

Someone has probably changed you Default Workgroup File. Open the workgroup
manager and change back to System.mdw. Assuming default installation folders
and Win2k or WinXP, the file is located at:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Access\System.mdw

The Workgroup Administrator can be found in Tools|Security on the menu bar.
It is not necessary to open Access with a database to get to this. You may
want to do a search for *.mdw files on your hard drive. If the System.mdw
file is the only one (one per user as described above), then you may be able
to just rename the file and have Access create a new one the next time you
start it. Do this with Access closed. Access will recreate the file when you
try to open an unsecured database, just reopening Access with no database
won't recreate the file.
