Logon Problem with XP Pro

D

Dopey

I was trying to eliminate the entering of a password during the Boot
up of Windows XP Pro. I read an article that said to go to Start>Run,
then type in "control userpasswords2" in the Run Command Line. I did
this and then followed the instructions from "Windows" including
entering a new password. Windows then created a new user account
called Administrator and a new set of Settings to be used during
Boot-up. When I re-booted the machine, sure enough it booted up with
out stopping for a password but only half my Desktop and applications
were there. I can see my original user account (which is also an
Administator account with a name). I can change to that original
acoount and everything is as it was before but when I reboot it goes
back to the new account.

Now the question: I cannot delete this new account named
Administrator. I even booted up in safe mode and still I could not
figure out how to delete the new account. I need to make Windows boot
up into the original account and all its settings. If I still have to
enter a password so be it.

Thanks for your help,

What you are seeing is the default hidden administrator account. It CANNOT
be deleted.

Run "control userpasswords2"
check "Users must enter......"
click apply
uncheck "Users must enter......"
click apply
In the popup box type YOUR username and password
click OK on the popup box
click OK
reboot

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

This is the procedure I tried to follow before. When I do this should
I be logged on as the normal administrator or "hidden admin"?. If I am
logged on as the normal admin when I do this procedure you have
outlined, should it log me on as the normal administrator when I
reboot?

I will take a check point before I try it this time. I probably
should do an image copy of the boot drive as well. I would hate to
have to reload the entire windows system if things get screwed up

Thanks again,

I followed your instructions step by step and the results are as
follows:
During the logon process a screen came up titled " Logon Message"
stating the following:

"The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain
are correct then type your password again. Letters in password must be
typed using the corret case." ( I did look to make sure that password
was in lower case when I typed it in. The Caps Lock was not on)

I clicked on the "OK" button and with out a chance to make any changes
the system took me directly to the normal logon screen showing the
users. The ony user showing was the one I just changed the password
for. I clicked on that user and the sytem loaded the correct personal
settings for that user (which incidentally is also an administrator).
The system, albeit seemingly very slow, finshed the boot process
normally. The only problem I seemed to have is the logon message
stating it could ot log me on. I do not understnd where i could check
to see if the domain (mentioned in the message is a problem.

Again, thanks for your help.
