Logon Password

I have my computer set up with the Admin. account and
with a password. One day, all of the sudden the password
would not go through during startup and I know I was
typing it correctly. I rebooted and rebooted until I
ended up installing XP Pro over again using the 6 startup
disks. I know I could have avoided doing this. So what do
I do if this occurs again? Or what could I do to make
sure it doesn't happen again? Thanks.
