Logitech QuickCam Zoom required .inf not found-WinXP Pro SP2

I need the name of the .inf file that the hardware wizard needs to install
this webcam. The Logitech QuickCam Zoom v.8.4.6 software installs but the
hardware wizard says that a required inf file cannot be found. I spoke with
Logitech support and they had me uninstall the software using Add/Remove,
then delete Logitech folders, and edit the registry to remove all references
to Vid_046, then perform a clean boot. Reinstalled the software, when it said
to restart, I clicked no, then changed msconfig back to normal startup, then
rebooted. Upon reboot, I get the Logitech splash screen saying to connect
camera to pc. When I do, the hardware wizard starts but gives the error that
the .inf file cannot be found and the Logitech screen says that no camera was
connected. (Should I have rebooted, connected camera, then changed msconfig
back to normal startup?) I ran services.msc and find that Human Interface
Device Access is Disabled. Could this be keeping the system from finding the
..inf file? Also, I have not tried upgrading my Shuttle AK35GTR BIOS from
AK35S00D to AK35S00M yet because Logitech support did not seem to think that
doing so would correct the missing .inf file. Logitech said that they have
heard of this problem rarely but they didn't seem to know how to correct it
so I'm hoping someone with WinXP Pro experience can help. Also, when I go to
Control Panel>Scanners and Camera>and click on Add an Imaging Device, the
wizard will not start. Any ideas on that either?

The default startup setting for HID service when SP2 is installed is
Disabled. If you want to try Manual, you could. If needed, it will load. If
not needed, it will not load.

Upgrading BIOS or enabling the service will not help with a missing INF
file. INF files are simply text files that contains INFormation about a
device or component. It sounds more like a mistake in the install program:
it is looking in the wrong place for the INF file and needs some human
intervention to find it.

The Logitech software should have added an .INF file for the camera during
its install. It may be in one of the Logitech folders or it may have tossed
it in one of the Windows folders (Windows\Inf; Windows; Windows\system32,
etc).

When notified about the missing INF file, is there a "browse" button that
allows you to navigate to different drives and folders? If yes, try the
folders mentioned above and try various folders on the Logitech CD.

Usually this dialog knows exactly what file it's looking for. Browsing will
show only files that it is interested in so keep trying related folders if
the first turns up "empty." If it happens that multiple INF files are shown
in a folder, check with Logitech if it's not apparent which one should be
selected.

Once the INF file is located through this browse window, click OK and the
installation should complete.

If you can't find the needed file using the above method, use Windows
Explorer to find it manually on the hard drive or on the Logitech CD. There
may be many to choose from if Logitech distributes a universal installation
CD that covers many camera models. Again, you may need to check with
Logitech for the exact filename and for the location that the INF file
should be copied to on the hard drive. Once you have the right INF file at
hand, right click on it and select Install.

Another possibility: There is a scratch or smudge on the CD where the INF
file resides. If the CD is damaged, you'd need a new CD or need a different
source for the installation (a download of the drivers and software from
Logitech).

Also, when I go toI found the .inf files on the CD and installed them but still got the same
error. Checking Device Manager-Hardware, found that I did not have Imaging
Devices listed at all, and the Add an Imaging Device would not start either.
Finally took a chance and did a system restore to before editing the
registry, performed a clean boot, reinstalled the software, attached camera,
and it worked! So now the camera is working, but so far I cannot get it to
work with Yahoo IM. (it doesn't show the camera at all) and IE keeps hanging
especially when I go to Yahoo's web site. When I do a CTRL-ALT-DEL, it shows
IE not responding, I click end task, it shows ending now, send error report,
but the hung IE never leaves the screen. I can minimize it to the task bar
where it stays until I do a system restart.
