USB ports stopped being recognized!

I have several USB ports on my Dell 4600. I have a USB mouse (which works
fine), but my Visioneer 9220 USB scanner and my Logitech QuickCam Communicate
USB camera stopped working for no apparent reason. If I plug one of the
non-working devices into the port for the working mouse, still nothing!
I am running Windows XP PRO/SP2, with 1Gb of RAM, with all current updates
installed. Dell says that there examination of the hardware shows that
everything appears OK. Visioneer has no tech support. Logitech does not know
how to suggest a fix. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

- and neither does it look like you can have a late version of the Visioneer
9220 USB scanner driver from their WEB site. However may you find useful

This “USB device stopped working for no apparent reason†is a recurring
issue in many Newsgroups, and apparently not always easily resolved. But of
course there IS a reason, if not always apparent. Two main sources for
causing the problem are change - / adding hardware and software (drivers) and
following conflicts as consequence.

It is difficult to give a precise advice on how to resolve your case, as
little information is available regarding the activities which took place
between the “ok - and not ok situationâ€, like adding hardware and/or software
e.g manual – or automatic updates etc. I would for a start unplug the scanner
and camera, and remove and reinstall USB controllers (preferably firstly the
camera and verify that it works) as per “General USB troubleshooting in
Windows XPâ€,

The drivers to reinstall should be the latest versions from Visioneer (if
obtainable, otherwise use as when first installed) and Logitech.

Ka2H, Thanks for the advice. Logitech FINALLY admitted that it "appears that
I have a defective device" and I am returning it. As for Visioneer.... I
think it is safe to say (based on their "no-support") that I will never again
purchase a Visioneer/Nuance/ScanSoft product!

Thank you very much for the reply, and I am happy that you will resolve your
case. It is always interesting to see the outcome, and often as well lessons
to learn from it(and I am not to old -).
