Does anybody know how I can permanently set the login ID
and not have the ability to change?

On the control panel under 'User Accounts' delete all
accounts but the one you want to keep and 'guest'. Then
turn the 'guest' account off.

Click "Change the way users log on or off"
Make sure the "Use welcome screen" box is checked.

When you restart Windows should always automatically log in
the account you kept.

You may also set one user to automatically log on without deleting the others and turning off guest account. An additional account which you never use is very helpful for trouble shooting, and the guest account must be on to enable some network functions. To have the computer automatically log on to a particular user, enable auto-login. I use Fresh UI to make these changes now, but there is an option somewhere in Windows XP to do this, however, since in installed Fresh UI, It is easy to find and I forgot the other option. Fresh UI is a free program available from Fresh Devices.com
