I am the only user on my computer a password has been set up for this
account as Acronis scheduled backup does not work without a password for the
user account. Each time I boot the computer I am asked to ener the
password, is it possible to change some setting so that I can login without
the password?

If you wish a machine to boot directly to the Desktop (into one particular
user's account) for convenience, you can do this. The instructions at this
link work for both XP and Vista:

Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -

Acronis works fine without a password. Just don't specify one when
the window appears where it is entered. Entering is optional.
