Logging on new user erases primary account's password

I just added a second account to my XP Pro machine. Whenever I log into
the new account, the password for the old account gets erased. I have to
reset the password of the old account from the new account. Every time.

The reverse is not true. Logging on the old account does not affect the
new account.

Any idea what's happening?

Update to this problem:
This happens only when I "Log out" then "Switch Users". If I reboot instead,
no error occurs.
