Logging off fails

Hi!

My Windows XP Prof. laptop sometimes gets stuck during the log off
procedure. ("Logging off ..." remains on the screen, "Saving settings
...." does not appear, CTRL/ALT/DEL has no effect.) Can I somehow
debug/trace what is going on?
