Logging into FP 2003

I have a web site (hosting) which is not permitting me to log onto the site
to update any of my web pages? I was told by my provider that the User ID and
Password has not changed, but for some bizzare reason or another, the user ID
and Password doesn't work!

Should I uninstall FP 2003 and install FP XP instead? Would that solve my
problem with this issue. If it does, why is it that 2003 isn't working! Does
the server extensions have anything to do with it? (I sincerely hope not!)

First:
Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download FP Cleaner.
Download links are at the bottom of the page.
Run the functions that clear:
The FrontPage Temporary files.
The Cache (*.web) files.

See if it helps.

If not, have your host reset / repair the FrontPage server Extensions.

Hi Steve-

I tried it, apparently it must not be Front Page, it has to be the service
provider. I entered the only password and user ID I was given (known) and
nothing! So, they have to reinstall it for me, it's all messed up for some
strange reason.

But, I will keep this program for future usage. Thanks!

I doubt using one version of FP over another would change the fact the
password and user name doesn't work - the issue would still exist.

Some suggestions:

Make sure you're using the exact password and username your host gave you,
including, but not limited to, checking the case (uppercase/lowercase) of
the characters is correct i.e. the letter 'e' is not regarded as the "same"
character as letter 'E' on some servers (more so on Unix/Linux).

Make sure you don't confuse letter "B" with the number "8", or number
'1'(number one) with the letter 'l' (lower-case 'L') - these are common data
input errors that people come across. I've seen it many a time on Windows
groups with people saying their CD keys don't work, and all they may have
done is type 1(number one) instead of l (lowercase 'L') for example.

Anyway, if you're logging on to the server and opening the live web (via
http://......) then the server extensions has everything to do with the
problem as they are what allow you to open your 'live' site in Frontpage.

Make sure the FPSE are installed (check with your host) or check through the
control panel facility for your hosting account.

Otherwise you need to use the FTP method in Frontpage or a third-party FTP
program like Cute-FTP.

What errors are you getting? If it is something a long the lines of "The
server extensions or sharepoint may not be installed...." then you need to
recheck with your host on these issues.

Hi Andrew-

I guarntee you the problem isn't the spelling (error like "8" v.s "B") or
anything like that... it has to be the server hosting provider... they must
be having some problems... I went bac to my old computer which never had a
problem logging into the server before, and it fails too.

Apparently they are not helping me fix this problem... they're a couple of
idiots over there. But thank you Andrew. I wanted to let you know I do
appreciate your efforts and feedback on this account/issue. But,
unfortunately it isn't what I am doing, it's them.

Thank you.
