WhatWhen I attempt to login I get this message:

"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system.

DETAIL - The system has attempted to load or restore a file into the
registry, but the specified file is not in a registry file format."

What can I do to fix this?

Hi,

The user profile is damaged, and this is generally not recoverable. What you
can do is create a new one and copy the user data from the old one into it.

Note that one step not listed in the article is that after creating the
destination profile you must log into it once first to create the necessary
file structure before you do the copy procedure.
