Logging in - instantly being logged out!

Have just installed McaFee 8 via on-line subscription and
then upgraded to Windows XP SP1 and was prompted to
restart pc which I did - now when I type in my password I
am logged out instantly. On the log on screen there is a
dialogue box (from McaFee) advising that I have a virus
but does not say what it is called. - does anyone have
any ideas?

Can you log in in Safe Mode? Then run a full scan w/McAfee?

Note, you never ever want to do an OS upgrade with AV software
installed....it causes tons of problems. Unless I misread your statement and
you mean you applied SP1 to an existing XP install....
