I'm currently on a computer with multiple Windows accounts. When logged out,
the main administrator account is showing that there are unread emails. When
you click this (while still logged out) a pop-up indicates there are three
emails from one address that has never emailed this administrator account.

The administrator uses Thunderbird, and there are no unread messages either
in the client or in the webmail account attached to the client. Outlook is
also showing no new messages.

The other Windows account also has no new messages on any of the clients or
webmails )they both use gmail with the downloadable gmail notifier, and both
notifiers are also clear of new messages.

Rebooting is not clearing this notification.

To make a long story short, is there a way to clear this notification from
the 'logged out' screen? For all I can see, this seems to be a glitch that we
are unable to clear - especially since the 'new emails' are from an email
address that have never mailed the administrator account.

Thanks!

I neglected to mention we're running a Dell of some sort (two months old)
with XP HE (Media) SP2.

TweakUI can reset the email count for on the Welcome Screen

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Within TweakUI go to "Repair" > in the drop down list select "Repair unread
mail count".

You could disable this feature as well through the registry.

Turn off Email Notification
Navigate to:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your_email_address]]
Name: MessageCount
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: (0 = disable, 1 = enable)
