I have a corrupt system file, this prevents my windows from booting,I tried
using the restore function of the windows XP professional CD, but when I
select the Log, and type in my password, it says the password is invalid. How
do I solve this problem. Is there any other way of replacing the system file
other than using the restore function of the windows XP CD ?

the win xp does not have "restore" function.
You can "repair" or "clean" install.
it sounds like you were trying to use the "recovery console". This is a
command line interface only. similar to using dos. The password for the
"recovery console" is usually blank.

Not sure I know what you mean by "Log".

you use word "restore" for what you tried and for what you don't want to do.
Obviously, the terms are not completely understood.

You didn't clearly or in any great detail explain your exact problem!

You probably want to do a "Repair Install"!!

Thanks for your response.I actually used the wrong words to explain the
situation. When I try to use the REPAIR option which is prompted by pressing
R, the system asks which windows Log I want to log into,I have just one so
when I press 1,it asks for my password, when I type in the password I
normally use, it says it is an invalid password. How do I solve this problem

I tried hiting enter without typing in any password it still said the
password is invalid.Could it be possible that there is another password ? I
have been using one paswword and I have administrator rights with this
password.what could be the problem

Sorry, I'm unable to assist you if there is a password on the built in administrator
account.
If you didn't put the password on, then check with the dealer you got the computer
from to see if they put a password on when installing XP originally.

I contacted the dearler but the guy who set it up does not work there again.
