How do I get rid of the administrator icon at logon which requires me to
click on it whenever I log on. I am the only person who ever uses this
machine & therefore I don't need to provide for other users to log in.

Thanks in advance

Start > Run > type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes > untick the
option to have users use a username and password.

Unless... You really mean log off via the start menu. In which case you're
unable to get rid of that I think. You'd have to click SOMETHING in order to
get back into the OS. Just don't log off. Use hibernate (press the shift key
after you click shut down) or standby. Logging off isn't required on a
single user PC.
