Log-on Trouble

When I try to send/receive email in Windows Mail , it asks for my log-in name
and password. I give it the correct responses, that window disappears, and
the window underneath that shows the progress of checking emails goes to
"Authorizing". Then the window asking for log-in name and password pops up
again, blank. Anybody know what's going on?

I believe, you go to Tools/Accounts/your account/Properties/Server tab,
where you give it the user-id and psw and check on Remember Psw.

On Outgoing Mail Server, you check on My server requires authentication and
select the Settings button, where you select Logon using and give the userid
and pse and check on Remember Psw.

Either the username or password you are entering is incorrect, or else
your antivirus has corrupted your mail account.
Read http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
If you have McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall it. Reboot and try
Windows Mail again.
If it still doesn't work, create a new mail account with the same
settings as the old one, then delete the old one.
Once you get your email working properly, download and install
a less troublesome antivirus program such as the free Avast.
Whichever antivirus program you keep, be sure to disable its
email scanning option.

I'm having the same problem. I've tried your advice but it's still happening.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium. My server is a Pop3 and my anti-virus
is Trend Micro Antivirus 2007. Should I delete it and try Avast?

Yes, use the uninstall procedure for your antivirus. Reboot,
then try Windows Mail again. If Windows Mail works properly
now, install Avast. If no improvement, you might as well reinstall
Trend Micro.

I have the same problem, first with Norton installed, then with avast, both
with mail scanner on and off. The problem remains. I contacted my ISP to
see if they had any idea, and they dont recognise the error codes
(08x00ccc90/91/92), although the error message states password not recognised.

Im inclined to believe its a wonky install of Windows Mail, are there any
steps re: reinstalling?

It is very likely that Norton corrupted your email account while
it still was your antivirus. Create a new email account in Windows Mail,
with the same settings as the old account, then delete the old account.
If it still doesn't work properly, copy the complete error message
and post it here.
