Log on to win2000 server (not domain controller) from win98 machine to access share

I set full permissions on the user account of win98se machine for this share
on win2000s, but I can not access it, it asks password for IPC$ when I just
click on the server in network neighborhood and none of my passwords work.
And I can not access it unless I activate Guest account on W2000server
machine. So I'm guessing that win98 machine does not login to server, and
server does not recognize it as user account seted up for it. How to login
win98 machine to win 2000 server if server not domain controller? (I tried
win98 network properties feature login to NT domain - "it did not find
machine to handle password")
