Log on Screen: keyboard and mouse not working

Suddenlymy wireless keyboard and mouse stopped working. I replaced them with
hard wired versions knows to be working well but they did not work either.
The computer has WinXP Professional installed.

I am unable to type my password to enter the machine...can anyone hel please.

try to use the safe of model to restart your PC.
 
Thank you for your thoughts. Unfortunately I am presented with the log-on
screen even when I try to enter the safe Mode. As the keyboard and mouse are
not functioning I am unable to log on.
