After computer idle for a bit, Log On Screen appears,
indicating number of programs running, requiring me to
click on my User Name to skip screen and resume computer
work. How can I permanently get rid of this Log On
Screen?

You have a screen saver enabled and when it kicks in the
first screen you see when you go back on line is the Log
On (Welcome)screen. In order to have your desktop
displayed when you go back on line, simply uncheck
the "On resume, display Welcome screen" on the Screen
Saver tab in the Display Properties window. Display
Properties window is accessed from the Control Panel.
