After logging on the usual way- Account name and then password, the screen starts to load as usual but a few seconds later it says logging offf & then saving system settings. After this it goes back to the Ctr-alt-del. I have tried to log in via safe mode, last best config etc but same result. Windows XP Prof
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks but can not figure out what to use on any of the sites attached. A little more details might help, thanks.

If your system is a victim of wsaupdater.exe spyware and you've run Ad-Aware or any other cleaner to remove this file, and the registry userinit still points to this location "C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe", this problem is seen. To workaround this, rename the userinit.exe (windows file) to wsaupdater.exe from Recovery Console. Now Windows thinks that wsaupdater.exe is present and loads the profile. Once you get it, change the registry value back to

C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,

as said in the Lavasoft knowledge article.

Thanks for the info. Just to let you know I do not run ad ware or similar. I only have Norton Anti Virus.
Also when I first tried to resart from the last best config I recvd an error message that the following file is missing or corrupted:
windows root >\system32/ntoskrnl.exe

I tied it again and did not get this message.

Jut I thought I would mention this.
