log on password

I am trying to help a friend secure her laptop. She has Windows XP Home
Edition. I am trying to set a password when she logs into windows at the
start up of her computer, but I can not figure out who to set this password.

You won;t secure the laptop by setting a password on a user account.
You need to go into the BIOS and set up a power on password.
