I GOT A DELL PC DESK TOP FROM A FRIEND OF MIND, THE PC WAS WORKING FINE TILL
A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO-I WAS REBOOTING IT, THE SCROLLING WINDOWS SCREEN CAME UP
- IT ACTED NORMAL- JUST WHEN IT WAS ABOUT TO START UP WINDOWS -A SMALL SCREEN
CAME UP WITH MY FRIENDS NAME, AND IT WANTED A PASS WORD FOR WINDOWS TO START
UP-(THIS WASN'T THE SIGN ON SCREEN TO GO TO THE DESK TOP). I CALLED HIM TO
GET THE PASSWORD,BUT OF COURSE HE DOESN'T KNOW IT. MY QUESTION IS-IS THERE A
BY PASS CODE TO GET THE WINDOWS PROGRAM TO START UP - OR DO I HAVE TO BUY
ANOTHER VERSION OF WINDOWS XP AND REINSTALL IT.
PLEASE HELP-I HAVE ALOT OF INFO IN THAT PC.

No need to shout. We can read what you have to say better if you do not, in
fact. Thus why most periodicals choose to limit their use of all uper case
lettering.

First - you friend must have given you the method he was given when he
bought the Dell PC to restore it to the original system state. If they
didn't - get that from them - no need to purchase what already comes with
the computer. And even if they were a friend - the first thing I would
choose to do when obtaining a used computer would be to install everything
afresh - so I know what is on there.

Windows XP what? Home? Professional?

If Windows XP Home - boot into Safe mode and logon as the user names
"administrator" and you can change the other users password. There is
likely NO PASSWORD on the administrator account.

If Windows XP Professional, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the welcome screen
to bring up the classic logon prompt and enter the username administrator
with a no password. It is blank on most computers. Then you can change the
other users password.

I can see that your biggest problem is that the caps lock key is
stuck on, please don't post in all caps, it is rude because it
SHOUTS.

Yes - but the administrator user is seperate from that user.
I told you what to put in.

Username: Administrator
Password: Leave it blank - put nothing in. Click OK.

How does one get this Password Screen to NOT appear every time one logs on
?????
