Locking PC via CTRL-ALT-DEL is breaking apps

What happens after you lock a PC via ctrl-alt-del? I've noticed that
ther are several apps that die when I do that. So far, they are games
that are running (1 is downloading, the other is in a merchant mode so
i can seel my stuff to other players while I sleep)

One game's video get blanked (just a black screen) and the other I
can't even restore the window.

What goes on in the background after I ctrl-alt-del? Hoqw an i fix
these issues (besides not ctr-alt-del?

What games?
Do they play in Window mode?
Are they in Window Mode when you lock the screen?
Do you have Hibernation and standby turned off?

Nothing goes on - unless you have standby/hibernation enabled...
Then - without interaction - things may break when those go into effect.
