lock up at boot

need to know how to boot to safe mode. my computer will
only boot to the desktop with no functions. no toolbar no
start menu nothing.

after your computer starts up, try pressing F5.
otherwise, keep hitting F8 on your keyboard when you
begin starting up your computer. That should bring up
the start up menu and you should be able to choose
whatever you wish from there.
