Local xp cache problem

Hi to all

Network environment consist of:

DC1 running dns w/AD integrated sp1
DC2 running dns w/AD integrated sp1
Samba Server
xp clients /sp2
w2k clients / sp4

The problem we are having is when a file is added or deleted on the samba
server,
the windows client pc's are still looking at the old file or (cached file).

On the clients, when I map a drive by ip address "\\192.9.166.12\sharename",
we see the changed file.

If I map a drive by name "\\name\sharename" we see the cached or old file.

Usually within a 2-4 hour period the mapped drive by name shows the correct
changed file.

I have verified the DNS entries on both dc's for the samba server to be
accurate.

Where does windows store cache for previously accessed files or data?

Is there a registry setting to tweak how long files should be cached in
windows?

Is this a windows vs samba issue?

Can someone shed some light?

Thank You
