When I try to change the user property by double clicking
on the user name, I get the following error message:

The following error occured while attempting to read the
properties for the user Tom:
The Server service in not started."

Which Server service do I need to start?

I am using Win XP prfessional on an Pentium 4 with 256 RAM
I created a new user and wanted to change his property
from limited user to Administrator and got the same
error message. I tried to change the
user property by going through Computer Management-->
Local User---> Select user and double click on the user
name to get the user property dialog box--When I tried to
access the Member of tab--- I get the error

Which Server service do I need to start?Any Idea?

Just right click on My Computer, click Manage, then expand Services and Applications. Click Services and in the right pane you will see a service called Server. Just start that and you should be good to go.

I have the Server service disabled on mine and was able to duplicate what your problem is. This should fix it.
