I would like to know how to enable local printing on a
Windows 2000 Professional machine connected on a network
to a Windows XP Professional machine which has this local
printer connected to it. Basically, how to get the 2000
machine to communicate with the XP machine's local
printer.

Make sure you have "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" installed under the properties for your local
connection. Install the printer on the Windows XP system. If we don't tell it to share it during the install we can go into the
properties of the printer and we can enable the sharing of the printer from the Sharing tab.

Once we have the printer install on Windows XP we should be able to go to Windows 2000, add a Network printer and point
it to the UNC name of the shared printer on the Windows XP system, \\<name of XP system>\<share name of printer>.
