Local Print Spooler stops

Our server print spooler service is fine, but we also have local
printers installed on the workstations and these give use errors. All
of the users local and mapped network printers disappear. I have to
restart the spooler service under manage on the users workstation.
Originally it was thought they may have a corrupted profile, but this
problem is becoming more prevelant. Please help.
We are running W2K with SP4. We do have automatic updates setup via
the server, so we we thinking that maybe a Windows update may have
caused a problem(?).
