Local Disk C not responding when saving or opening files

Whenever I attempt to right click on a jpeg on the internet or a video file &
save as I experience a problem. The Save As Box appears, so I can choose
where to save the file. But, when I start clicking around to get to the
folder I want to save the new file in, the process freezes up. I open Task
Manager & it says Local Disk C not responding, even if I'm saving to a
different drive. If I leave it alone for about 5 minutes, it starts
responding. This also occurs when I right click on start to open Explorer to
access my files. I can get to the Explorer screen with the folders, but as
soon as I start expanding them, the above scenario occurs. Has anyone ever
heard of this? I've run 3 virus programs & everything seems clean. I have
plenty of hard disk space & memory. I've had this Dell brand new since
September & have not had problems. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks

Al

I have seen this happen when the hard drive is failing.

You should make an attempt to find out if the problem occurs
with Internet Explorer only or if it also happens when saving
files out of other applications, e.g. Word, Excel, Notepad,
Wordpad.

No one seems to understand....The problem is Windows Explorer, NOT Internet
Explorer! When I right-click on start & go to Explore to access my files, a
freezing occurs & it says Local Disk C not responding.

Well, you did start your post with "Whenever I attempt to right click on
a jpeg on the internet", thus implying that your problem was related to
Internet Explorer. Still, the question remains the same: Do you encounter
this problem from other applications too?

Like I said in a previous post:
I have seen this happen when the hard drive is failing.
