Local direction/temp files - over 40 gigs?!?!

I don;'t know how it happened, but I have over 40 gigs in my
document&settings/user/local settings/temp folder.
Is it safe to get rid of all of this stuff? How can I tell? It is a
temp folder right...?

I would say it's safe enough to be deleted since they're in the 'temp'
folder.

These files are temporary files that are extracted during program
installation, workspace files by programs like Adobe Photoshop, video
editing software, etc.

Be careful not to delete anything outside the temp folder.

The contents of that folder and of the \Windows\Temp folder should be
deleted on a regular basis. Do it after a fresh reboot. Installation
routines will put files there to complete after the next reboot, so do a
reboot and then delete what's there. If something is in use, Windows won't
let you delete it.

A nice program for deleting these scraps is Ccleaner.

Thanks, but I did notice that DVD files are there from DVD's that I
have burned. So I can't delete all of them!

I'm not sure what you mean by you can't delete all of them. Does this mean
you don't want to or it won't let you delete them and you're asking for
help?

If the later try deleting them from safe mode, from the command line, or try
this utility.
