My computer used to boot up all the way to the desktop
but after a visit to the computer shop, it now stops
midway through and I have to prompt it to continue. At
the stop point, it shows how many emails I have and asks
if I want it to open to my email.

How can I get rid of this delay and have it boot all the
way to the desktop like it used to?

Thanks.

It seems we are dealing with the Welcome Screen in XP.

You can disable the Welcome screen during startup by
performing the following steps:

Login as built-in administrator:

1. Restart the computer.
2. Press the F8 key repeatedly when the red Compaq logo
appears. The
Windows Advanced Options menu is displayed.

NOTE: If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some
computers
may generate a "keyboard error" message.
Please restart
the computer and try again.

3. Use the arrow keys to select Safe mode form the list
and then press Enter.
4. Login as an administrator. The user name
is "administrator" and
the password is user specified (if any) or blank by
default.

Disabling the Welcome logon screen:

After Windows loads, perform the following steps to
disable the Welcome logon screen:

1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
2. Click User Accounts.
3. Click "Change the way users log on or off."
4. Click to deselect the "Use the Welcome screen"
checkbox.
5. Click Apply Options.

Gotta goin now!!!

He doesn't want to disable the Welcome Screen, Mark. He wants to enable
autologon.
