Load Up - Outlook 2000

Outlook 2000 will not load up completely.
"Inbox" loads, but can't access Contact, Calendar, Outlook Today, Delete, etc.
Can't "send/receive" emails. Outlook can't connect to server.
Can't open already received emails.

Here's what I've tried:
1) can't find a "outcmd.dat" file (on the chance that it's corrupted) to
change name
2) have tried to find an "Outlook.exe." file to try a "switch" start. Found
one Outlook.exe file BUT also found an "Outlook.exe-1D3BEDBF.pf" file (which
was created this AM when Outlook wouldn't boot up). I don't know which exe.
to use.
3) Couldn't find instructions for how to do a "switch" start for Office 2000
(only saw instructions for Office 2003)
4) found an "outlook.pst" file which, when I opened and closed it, locked up
everything. Took almost 10 minutes to close/cancel/back-out of everything in
order merely to turn off the computer!

Help?

To find your outcmd.dat file you'll have to unhide hidden files and folders.
You do this in Windows Explorer by choosing Tools > Folder Options > View and
changing it there. Then you can do a simple file/folder search, which you can
access by clicking on Start > Search (or similar, depending on your operating
system).

If Outlook opens, try to run detect and repair from the Help menu.

Other than that, the switch listing is here:

http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/commandlineswitches.htm

but not all switches work for your version of Outlook. I think if I were
you, I'd try opening Outlook in /safe mode to see if you can get in at all.
Try starting outlook this way: Start > Run > outlook /safe OR Start > Run >
outlook.exe safe.

One of the things I'd be curious about was when Outlook 2000 last worked for
you. Also I wonder what size your PST is?

Post back and let me know how it goes. There are always other
troubleshooting steps to try.

Amazing!!! Turned on the compute and Outlook loaded as if there had never
been a problem! This after I had turned the computer off and on several
times this AM while trying to resolve the problem.

Nevertheless, the problem will re-occur, so still will try your suggestions.
But, while Outlook was up and working:
1) Tried to run "detect & repair" from Help menu. Inserted Office 2000 Pro
CD as requested. Said it needed a "DATA1.MS1" file. I couldn't find the
file.
2) Still can't locate an "outcmd.dat" file. Went into Tools > Folder
Options; selected "show hidden files." Then searched. Nothing.
3) Haven't tried the switch start. Didn't need it. Yet!
4) Outlook last worked for me March 19 through about 11:30pm. The problem
manifested this AM (March 20 at 9:30 AM).
5) My "Outlook.pst" file is 437,584 KB. It was created in April 2005 when
the hard drive on my desktop crashed and I had to have everything (as much as
possible) transferred to my laptop. The "Outlook.pst" file is located in my
"Old C" file from my old desktop.
6) There's also an "Outlook.exe-1D3BEDBF.pf" file which was created today
(March 20) when Outlook refused to operate. The file is 3.76 MB. What's a
..pf file?
