Load Balancing

Chris

I have two W2K web servers setup with windows network load
balancing to provide redundancy for the site. I wanted to
use DFS to replicate the site data between the servers but
ran into problems as it is not possible to see one server
from the other as they are seen as one entity on the
network. To get over this I have added an independent NIC
to each server and connected them via a X-Over cable.
This enabled me to setup DFS (which I could not do before
adding the second NIC's) and I am have enabled
replication. However it does not work, any ideas?

Secondly, I have bought a certificate from Veritas to
secure the site. I was able to apply the certificate to
the first server okay, but the second one is giving me
different options to the first. I consulted Veritas,
asking if I needed a second certificate, but upon
explaining the load balancing situation they advised I
speak to my vendor (Microsoft) for help. Do I need a
second certificate from Veritas for the second server, or
does it apply site wide? If it applies site wide then how
do I apply the certificate to the second server?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Chris,
I'll address the NLB issue. Not sure about the Cert, my guess would be
you should be able to load the same cert on both servers.

NLB, with the second NIC you can get this to work. Try this.
Make sure you put them cross over cable to a different subnet than the LB
adapters.
Then change the TCP metric on the LB adapters to 2 leaving the independent
nics at 1.
This should do it.

Thank you,

Hi Chris,

I've noticed that you posted multiple issues in this thread. Generally, we answer one question per post in
the newsgroups. In order to concentrate fully on each of these problems we ask that you post them as
separate threads. That way each issue can receive full attention from the Support Professional to whom it is
assigned. This will also make the thread more clear and consistent for your reference. Please feel free to
open different posts for these questions. We will be very glad to work with you.

You may want to post the second question in the following newsgroup:

microsoft.public.certification.networking

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

That worked! It also required me to add the FQDN of each
server and the IP of the second NIC to each other servers
HOSTS file.
